And on to the products!

1. Pacifica Alight Multi-Mineral BB Cream: Multi-tasking BB Cream that hydrates, primes, and illuminates for a sheer, bare finish no matter your skin tone.

Here's what it looks like against my skin (Nars Sibera, Illamasqua RLF 115 / SB2).

Uh, yeah.  Not exactly a great match.  In fairness, I am an outlier on the light skin tone end of the spectrum, so purportedly universal shades always make me nervous.  That said, the packaging does say that it's supposed to provide a "sheer, bare finish," and that's definitely true when blended out.  But why not just use a moisturizer or serum if that's all you're after?  My skin is not nearly nice enough on its own to get away with so little coverage.  And if you're fortunate enough to have perfect skin, why even bother?  This is a product I just don't get.

2. Emani Hybrid Creme in Speechless 1042: Mineral Hybrid Cream that creates sheer or intense colors on the eyes, cheeks, and lips.

This is my favorite of the August box.  Despite looking like a powder, it's cool and creamy to the touch and very densely pigmented.  You can sheer it out for a less dramatic effect if you like.  I love that you can use it pretty much anywhere on your face.  It's like a cruelty free version of MAC CCB, except with a much better texture!  Love it!  I may investigate other shades as I would probably only consider using such an orangey-coppery shade on my blue eyes to really make them pop.  I suspect that other shades may be much more versatile for someone with my coloring.

3. Enfusa All-Natural Spa Soak: Essential oil-infused bath soak that will sooth and relax your muscles.

According to the info card included in the box:

Enfusia's Muscle Soak releases the aches and pains caused by sore muscles.  The blend of essential oils of Eucalyptus, Mint, Rosemary, and Tea Tree soothes and refreshes while Epsom Salts restore and renew the body while providing the essential nutrient magnesium through the skin.
To me, it has a very minty smell with an undercurrent of dill pickle.  I have a feeling the latter would go undetected when diluted in the tub.

DH's scent description: "Smells like wintergreen chewing gum mixed with perfume."

So if DH didn't pick up on the pickle smell, you're probably safe.

4. Balanced Guru Energy Mist in Understanding: Aromatherapy energy mists to balance your chakras and leave you ready to take on the world.

I should preface my comments by saying that I am completely uneducated in any matter pertaining to chakras, gurus, and/or transcendental wisdom.  But man, this smells like a big old pine tree.  I have a hair trigger when it comes to scent-related migraines, and for me, this would really trip it.  I think a little of this would go a really long way as far as the fragrance.  I cannot speak to its other claims, including but not limited to, imbuing transcendental wisdom.

DH's scent description: "It's like pitch from a tree mixed with something.  F*ck.  It's so hard to place.  It's mostly just pitch from a tree."

5. Zabana Essentials French Green Clay Facial Cleansing Bar: Detoxifying green clay facial cleansing bar that leaves skin clear and clean.

When the box arrived, there was something inside giving it a really fresh, wonderful smell.  It turned out to be this little slab of soap.  To me, it smells really green and fresh, like outside.

DH's scent description: "Smells like Comet.  The scrubby cleaner."

Ok, well, that doesn't sound very flattering, but I submit that something can both smell of Comet and smell good.

And that's the August box!  The reason that I've never subscribed to any other beauty box is the inability to know that every product you receive will be cruelty-free.  I never have to worry about that with Vegan Cuts.  My only tiny gripe is that sometimes the products don't seem as... pragmatic; e.g., pine needle energy mist.  Most are on point, though, and I've had a ton of fun discovering new brands with these boxes!  (And polish junkies, yes, nail polish is definitely in the Vegan Cuts rotation!)
