Sally Hansen Big Smoky Top Coat + Illamasqua Harem

Hi, everyone!

I picked up the Sally Hansen Big Smoky Top Coat back in February, mainly due to my curiosity about what the heck a big smoky top coat was.  I've been preoccupied with other untrieds in my collection and put off trying it until today, but I'm glad I did because it creates a pretty interested effect! I tested it out on top of Illamasqua Harem.

Here's Harem solo:

As a side note, I have to say that Harem has gotten me the most compliments from strangers of any polish I have worn to date.  I believe I was just boasting the same of Zoya Farah, but we've got a new personal best with Harem!  It's such a pretty pinky lilac-y shade.  It seemed to wear a lot better than the other Illamasquas that I own, but I did top this one with Seche Vite instead of my normal Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.  It's definitely possible that Illas like Seche better on me and could be the key to getting the most out of wear.

And now for the Big Smoky Top Coat!

Sally Hansen Big Smoky Top Coat over Illamasqua Harem Ombre Effect Nail Polish
L to R: direct sunlight (sunset), shade
On my index is Harem alone with one coat of Big Smoky on middle, two on ring, and three on the pinky.  One coat went on a little streaky but is definitely do-able for a really effortless ombre effect.  No more messing with four or five bottles at a time!  I think this could also just be a fun manicure extender if you get a chip or two and want to squeeze a few more days out of your existing polish.  It basically deepens the shade of whatever you've got on.  Apparently, Ulta had a similar smoky top coat last year sometime, but I missed out on that one as I was still living overseas at that point.  I'm not aware of any other possible dupes.  It's a pretty unique effect, and I think I really like it!

The only downside... the song "On Top of Old Smoky" playing on a loop in my head!

What do you think of this top coat?

*Illamasqua is cruelty-free.  Sally Hansen is cruelty-free, but Coty, its parent company, is not.
